Sin embargo, la arquitectura gótica en España y los reinos hispanos ha sido tradicionalmente evaluada respecto a la imitación de la arquitectura del norte de Europa, desestimada por su calidad «anticuada» o provincial, y condenada por su pasiva receptividad a la «influencia islámica». Pero, ¿la imitación realmente triunfó sobre la invención en la arquitectura de la Iberia medieval? ¿Son las dos incompatibles? ¿Pueden la inventio y la imitatio ofrecer herramientas analíticas útiles o válidas para entender la arquitectura gótica? ¿Y hasta qué punto la invención o la imitación están determinadas por promotores, arquitectos, materiales o tecnologías?

Esta colección de ensayos reúne a destacados académicos para examinar la arquitectura gótica ibérica desde el siglo XIII hasta el XVI, y proporciona la primera contribución significativa sobre la arquitectura gótica española publicada en inglés desde 1865.
